Incident: Accidental Discharge of a Firearm

On December 5, 2022 at approximately 1:20 P.M., members of the Oakbrook Terrace and Oak Brook Police Departments were assigned to 22nd Street, east of Midwest Road in the City of Oakbrook Terrace for a male who exited a vehicle and was bleeding profusely. Upon arrival, the officers found the driver suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg. Officers rendered first aid and the driver was subsequently transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver accidentally discharged his firearm, shooting himself in the leg as he was attempting to holster the firearm while he was driving on 22nd Street. The driver is a valid F.O.I.D. and Illinois Concealed Carry License holder. The incident is being investigated by the Oakbrook Terrace Police Department and no criminal charges have been filed at this time. There is no danger to the community.
