Wisconsin Woman Charged with Murder in Oak Brook Terrace Shooting

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Terrace Chief of Police Casey Calvello announced today that a Wisconsin woman had been charged with First Degree Murder in the shooting death of Obaidulla F. Shareef on February 4, 2026, in Oak Brook Terrace. On February 5, 2026, authorities located and apprehended without incident the suspect, Akrystal Woods, 19 (d.o.b. 7/14/2006) of Milwaukee, in Wisconsin. In all, Woods is charged with three counts of First Degree Murder. She remains in custody in Wisconsin awaiting extradition to DuPage County.

“Fleeing to another state does not take a defendant out of the reach of law enforcement,” Berlin said. “Thanks to the truly outstanding work of the Oak Brook Terrace Police Department in coordination with DuPage MERIT and the Milwaukee Police Department, Ms. Woods was quickly identified and taken into custody and will be returned to DuPage County where she will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I offer my sincerest condolences to Obaidulla’s family and friends as they grieve their loss. I thank the numerous law enforcement agencies who provided valuable assistance in this case as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Helen Kapas, Ken Tatarelis and Nicholas Covert for their work in securing strong charges against Ms. Woods.

"This arrest is a testament to the seamless collaboration between our local officers and our partners across DuPage County,” Calvello said. “By pooling our resources through MERIT, we were able to bring the highest level of investigative skill to bear on violent crimes, ensuring our community remains safe. I thank DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for their legal guidance throughout this investigation.”

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
