  • Once your application is received, City staff may respond to you with questions or to request additional documentation before an application can be accepted.

Permit Review Process

  • The application and all required documents will be reviewed by City staff. Depending on the type and scope of the project, the application may be reviewed by many different departments and outside consultants to ensure the proposed work complies with all of the applicable building and zoning codes. Projects are reviewed in the order they are received, and the time necessary to complete the review is based on the type of project. Complex projects, such as a new single-family home, may take longer than a simple project, such as a fence or driveway.
  • There are some properties in Oakbrook Terrace that are located within a floodplain. If a property is located within a floodplain or if you will be adding more than 500 square feet of impervious surface, an engineering review may be required.  Additional documentation may be needed for engineering review.  To verify whether your property is located within the floodplain, you can check online.  After you click the link, type the property address in the top left corner and click the checkbox on the right side of the screen for “DFIRM 2019”.  If you have questions, contact Community Development at 630-941-8300 ext 209 or permits@oakbrookterrace.net
  • If upon review the permit application is found to have deficiencies, a plan review will be emailed to the applicant. All corrections should be addressed and any new or revised documents must be resubmitted. Staff will provide you with information on how to submit those documents. Subsequent reviews are generally quicker than the initial review.
  • If the permit application is approved, staff will notify applicant with the permit fees and any other outstanding items that must be submitted before the permit is released.

Permit Fees

  • Permit fees will be determined during the review process based on the scope of the work proposed. The payment must be made before the permit will be issued.  The fees can be paid in the following ways:
    • For Credit Card:  Paid in person at City Hall, or online via the permitting portal or https://www.oakbrookterrace.net/finance/page/online-payments
